BORN OF THE SERPENT

In 2022, I was deep in my training in nature connection skills and participating in a multi-day survival expedition. During that experience, I had the unique opportunity to be presence of deceased Snake. To honour the Snake's life, we decided on a shared dinner and to prepare the meat, my friend drained the blood & made a black pudding over the fire.

I decided to try it & as the rest of the group chatted into the night – I was sent into a full-on psychedelic experience.

The medicine this snake shared with me was so strong that I had to leave the group & wandered into the forest back to my tent. Throughout the night, I received vivid visions directly from the Snake, who is considered a master of death/rebirth, transformation & the feminine mysteries in many cultures.

Earlier that day, people talked about continuing their training in earth skills with a special interest in an upcoming Vision Quest training. I too was excited to attend as I had always felt called to facilitate such rites of passage ceremonies. But that night, this animal ally clearly told me (to my surprise):

“That is not your path. Whilst honourable and important, it is not the feminine lineage. Research the true origins of the quest, that is your path”.

And this is how BLOOD RITES was born.

BLOOD RITES = WOMEN'S RITES

The path led me to the ancient lineage of blood rites that once governed a woman's life, connecting her to God and her own soul. Yet, much of this lineage has been lost in modern life, and as a result, women are experiencing the highest rates of menstrual dysfunction, fertility struggles, menopausal issues and general disembodiment in history.

I don't believe these are purely physical conditions though.
They are spiritual invitations.

I know this because of my own heartbreaking but ultimately life-changing journey with my menstrual cycle. One that took me on a deeply confronting initiation with PCOS, CIN 3 Cervical Dysplasia (final stage before cervical cancer) and an ovarian polyp - all of which I went on to heal naturally. However, the catalyst for my own healing did not come from any magical diet/lifestyle, supplement, cycle syncing, therapy session or even nervous system work.

I transformed when I finally learned how to interpret and embrace the soul lesson that my womb was communicating with me, using the ancient ceremonial practices that this work centres on.

Because unless we are willing to see and integrate the inner lesson, the outer circumstances will simply repeat themselves in a different way. Not because you are being punished, but because you are being asked to transform into the woman you came here to be.

And this transformation and embodiment of soul has always been the service of BLOOD RITES.

Regardless of whether you have current challenges with your menstrual cycle or are in the menopausal stage of life, this work restores the lineage of women-centred rites of passage that support the becoming of who you are here to be and the integration of key lessons in service to that becoming.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This rite of passage is for all women - whether you are cycling, approaching menopause, or long past it.

This ceremony involves a supported 3 night wilderness solo that is central to the program. Fasting is not required but it is very important that you are prepared for the ceremony and engage in the preparation work.

This event is also camping only accommodation.

The experience is capped at 16 women only, to allow for more intimate support.

What Women are Saying...

I clearly saw that I have unconsciously denied being a whole woman, because it was safer to be a woman that behaved like a man. Now I feel my own remembrance, and it is growing. I am getting to know the whole woman, and embracing her as I welcome all of her.

NICA

I am 46 years old and I approached this work aiming to equip myself with more knowledge to navigate menopause with grace. For years, I have been trying to "think" my way out of my challenges, or "high-vibe it to life". This work pushed me through something, where I have stopped trying to be something I'm not and embraced all that I am.

MONIQUE

I teach yoga and breathwork and have done many programs, and I can honestly and authentically say this has been one of the most impactful experiences I have ever had. The most impactful part of it all has to be the connection I’ve made with nature. Coming home to nature and tapping into my feminine felt like everything I had ever been searching for.

Frequently asked questions

How is Blood Rites different from traditional vision quest programs?

Blood Rites is a rite of passage ceremony specifically designed around women’s bodies and the ways women experience transformation. Many contemporary vision quest models draw upon rites of passage frameworks historically associated with the initiation of boys and men. While this work has evolved considerably, and there are incredible female practitioners who have adapted these frameworks to meet the needs and experiences of women, Blood Rites begins somewhere different. Rather than adapting an existing model for women, the ceremony places the feminine way at its centre from the beginning. Blood Rites is an attempt to revitalise feminine approaches to initiation, drawing upon five years of research into women’s rites of passage, alongside my own research and practice in ecosomatics and wilderness-based transformation. The ceremony does not seek to emulate, recreate or appropriate the ceremonial traditions of another culture. It is a contemporary rite of passage informed by research into feminine initiation and created specifically for this body of work.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, there is a 4-part and 6-part monthly payment plan option.

If you require an extended payment plan, we are willing to support this on a case by case basis. Please get in touch at hello@brittanyjanelaidlaw.com

Does the ceremony involve fasting?

No. The wilderness solo does not require fasting.
You will be encouraged to eat very simply during this period, and detailed guidance around food and preparation will be provided as part of the course.

Within the feminine lineages and rites of passage traditions that have informed Blood Rites, intense fasting was not understood as a prerequisite for women to enter altered states, receive visions or undergo profound initiatory experiences. The ceremony therefore works with the particular pathways through which women’s bodies enter states of heightened sensitivity, receptivity and transformation.

Do you offer refunds?

No refunds are available after payment. If you are on a payment plan, you can request to cancel your plan if you choose to withdraw from the course, however no refunds for previous monthly payments will be given. Please consider your choice to join the program thoroughly before enrolling.

PLEASE NOTE: We also require a minimum of 10 participants for the immersion to go ahead. If minimum numbers are not reached, the immersion will be rescheduled to a later date. If the immersion is rescheduled, your booking will automatically be transferred to the new dates and if you’re unable to attend the rescheduled immersion, you’ll receive a credit for the full amount paid to go towards a future event or program. Rescheduled immersions are not eligible for refunds.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring your own personal camping equipment, including a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat etc, and other items required for being and sleeping outdoors. A complete packing list will be provided before the program.

The property where Blood Rites is held has the other facilities required for the immersion, including toilets, a kitchen and a main teaching space. You will therefore only need to provide your own personal camping equipment and belongings.

What kind of support is provided beyond the coursework and immersion?

Blood Rites places a strong emphasis on holding women well. We believe some of the deepest transformation becomes possible when we feel sufficiently supported to surrender to the experience, knowing there is a strong container around us.

For this reason, support extends well beyond the wilderness immersion itself. You will receive comprehensive pre-immersion information to prepare you for the experience, alongside a number of post-immersion integration calls to support your transition home and help you integrate what has unfolded into your everyday life.

During the immersion, our team includes an Accredited Psychotherapist who is available should something arise that you would benefit from exploring with additional one-on-one support. We also have a Craniosacral Therapist available to support your body and nervous system throughout the experience. Each participant has access to one session per practitioner (e.g one therapy session and one craniosacral)

Following Blood Rites, you will also be invited into our alumni community, offering an ongoing connection with the women who have shared this experience, as well as the wider lineage of women who have walked this path before you. This is a sisterhood of women who can continue to witness you, celebrate your becoming, and back you in bringing more of your wholeness, power and brilliance into the world - which is actually quite rare!

I’m no longer bleeding, or I’m moving through menopause. Is this program for me?

Absolutely. Blood Rites is for women in all stages of life, and you do not need to be menstruating to participate in or receive deeply from this work.

In fact, many of the women who have journeyed with us have been in their menopausal or post-menopausal years. This threshold can be an incredibly powerful rite of passage in its own right, and we have witnessed women receive profound support through this work as they navigate this transition and deepen into their power, wisdom and relationship with themselves.

Blood Rites is not simply about menstrual blood. It is about the initiatory nature of the feminine body and the many thresholds a woman moves through across her lifetime.

How many women will be attending? I get nervous in big groups?

Blood Rites is intentionally capped at 16 women. This is a very deliberate choice to ensure that every woman feels deeply held throughout the experience and receives the individual attention and support she needs.I have both participated in and facilitated quests with much larger groups of 30+ people, and there is certainly a unique medicine in questing at that village scale.

However, part of what makes Blood Rites so special is the intimacy of the experience.

Keeping the group small creates greater spaciousness for us to work with each woman individually, to really get to know you and your process, and to offer more personalised support throughout the journey. It also allows for a deeper sense of connection, without the experience feeling overwhelming or like you become lost in the crowd.

Is Blood Rites suitable if I am experiencing significant mental health challenges?

Blood Rites is a spiritual and transformational container. It is not a replacement for therapy, psychological treatment or other forms of professional mental health care, and should not be approached as such.

Due to the nature of initiatory work, uncomfortable emotions, resistance, fear, grief, tension and other challenging experiences may arise throughout the journey. A level of self-responsibility and willingness to meet and move through your own emotional experience is therefore required to participate.

While our team is there to hold and support you throughout the process, including access to an accredited psychotherapist during the immersion, you are ultimately making a conscious choice to enter a transformational experience in which periods of discomfort may form part of the journey.

If you are currently experiencing significant psychological distress, are unsure whether you have the capacity to safely participate, or are receiving treatment for a mental health condition that may be affected by an intensive wilderness experience, we ask that you contact us before enrolling so we can discuss whether Blood Rites is an appropriate container for you at this time.

Are there any age limits?

Due to the nature of the content and experience, you must be at least 18 years of age to participate in Blood Rites. There is no upper age limit.

Are there any physical requirements for participating?

Blood Rites takes place on a 120-acre bush property with natural, uneven terrain. You will be spending time walking through the bush, camping outdoors and sleeping close to the earth, so it is important that you feel comfortable moving through these kinds of conditions.

The immersion also includes somatic and movement-based practices. These can be adapted to meet the needs and capacities of your individual body, and you are always encouraged to work within your own limits.

You do not need to be highly fit or experienced in wilderness environments to participate. However, you should feel reasonably comfortable walking on uneven terrain, spending extended periods outdoors and camping for the duration of the immersion.

If you have any questions about whether the physical requirements will be suitable for you, please reach out to us at hello@brittanyjanelaidlaw.com before enrolling and we can discuss your individual circumstances.

Are plant medicines or other substances used during the ceremony?

No. Blood Rites does not involve the use of psychedelics, hallucinogens or other psychoactive plant medicines. The altered states and experiences that may emerge within the ceremony are cultivated through the practices and conditions of the rite itself, without the use of these substances.

Blood Rites is a completely drug and alcohol-free container, and this is a firm boundary of the program. Participants are expected to remain free from recreational drugs and alcohol throughout the immersion and during the designated preparation period beforehand. This includes the use of marijuana/cannabis.

Further guidance around preparation and what is expected in the lead-up to the immersion will be provided as part of the pre-immersion calls.

What happens in the unexpected event that the event is postponed or rescheduled?

While this is rare, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally require us to postpone the immersion. This may include events such as natural disasters, extreme weather, or other unexpected situations that make it unsafe or impractical for the program to proceed.

We also require a minimum of 10 participants for the immersion to go ahead.
